Goodyers Arts & Crafts Oak Marimba Glockenspiel

Goodyers Arts & Crafts Oak Marimba Glockenspiel
A wonderful Arts and Crafts oak framed Marimba or Glockenspiel, dating to circa 1900. The design of the supports is very similar to dining tables sold by Goodyers of Regent Street and I have thus attributed it to them. Another for sale on the web has been attributed to George Walton for Liberty and Co. The musical resonators are stamped Plant and Perry Pat 5320, which dates the original application to 1886, and Sole Licensee W F Needham. The frame measures 560mm ( 22 inches) long, 810mm ( 32 inches) high and 380mm wide ( 15 inches) at the foot. Condition is good overall, commensurate with age. The resonators have been re-strung, and the strikers have some signs of wear to the pads. It strikes up a tune fairly well, depending on the rhythmic ability of the player, which alas cuts me out!
