19th Century Indian Dhokra Bronze Lakshmi Owl
A rather wonderful Indian Dhokra bronze of the Goddess Lakshmi seated upon an Owl, made in West Bengal circa 1850. Lakshmi is an ancient Indian Goddess of prosperity, good fortune and beauty and is often portrayed with an owl, her vehicle of choice. Offered in pretty good condition, commensurate with age, the base of the Deity has come away from the owl at the back but doesn't affect the piece and would appear to have happened a long time age. It measures 18cm (7") high and 10.5cm (4") wide at its maximum.
