Arts & Crafts Silver and Abalone Brooch circa 1920
A wonderful Arts and Crafts silver and abalone brooch, modelled as silver "wavelets" surrounding an abalone "sea". This has been particularly well made, with great detail, as can be seen from the photographs. I think it is British in manufacture, circa 1910-20, and could be by Scottish Arts and Crafts jeweller Mary Thew. Whoever did make it was skilled. It is in good condition, commensurate with its age and measures 57mm by 26mm overall, with the central shell being 24mm by 17mm. It weighs 8.3 grams (.270 ozt).
