Arts & Crafts Stained Glass Design Miss T M Cox

Arts & Crafts Stained Glass Design Miss T M Cox
A stunning Arts & Crafts stained glass design, or cartoon, painted by Miss Trena Mary Cox, circa 1927. The design was for a stained glass window in St Peter's Church, Stratton, Gloucestershire, to commemorate a previous Rector. The original backing to the frame had her address and information on the design, now saved separately, there is correspondence in Gloucester Archives about the commission and the finished window is in situ in the church today. Produced in charcoal and body colour it is an accomplished piece and has great impact in its tall and narrow format. Offered in good condition, commensurate with age, it is in its original frame with new backing board. Trena Mary Cox lived and worked in Chester for nearly 50 years as a stained glass designer and artist, starting circa 1924 to work on her own. There is an excellent article on her work written by Peter Jones and reproduced in the stained glass articles section of www.buildingconservation.com.
