Arts & Crafts Steel & Brass Celtic Coal Box c1920
A good and substantial steel and brass Arts and Crafts coal box, fitted with its original tinned metal liner, and dating to circa 1910 to 1920. The wood lined steel body is decorated with Celtic motifs, there are a wonderful pair of substantial brass handles to the ends and it stands on 4 small bun feet. Offered in pretty good condition, commensurate with age, with some signs of rust to the base of the liner (now covered with a lining paper) and some markings to the body, as is to be expected with fireplace furniture, but this does not detract at all from its visual impact. It is extremely functional and is large enough to take logs or other items, not just coal. The top measures 54cm (21 1/4") wide by 30.5cm (12") deep and it is 34.5cm (13 1/2") high.
