Arts and Crafts Oak Shakespeare Chair, c1890
This is a particularly striking Arts and Crafts oak Shakespeare chair, of strong proportions and good colour. It is pleasing to the eye, solid and surprisingly comfortable. It measures 1295mm (51 inches ) high, with a maximum width of 700mm ( 28 inches), and depth of 485mm ( 19 inches). The seat measures 530mm by 395mm and is 445mm high.
Offered in good condition, commensurate with age, the blocks and joints have been re-glued to maintain stability.
As an addendum I have now been informed that this model was manufactured by William Bartlett of High Wycombe and probably retailed through Liberty and Co.
