French Ormolu Bat Dragon Chamber Stick c1880
A later 19th Century (probably French) gilt bronze or ormolu chamber stick, modelled as a dragon or bat. Almost anthropomorphic in its detail, the creature appears to be blowing flames which form the candle aperture, and his eyes are bulging with the effort. It is finely cast and gilded and great fun! Condition overall is very good, commensurate with age, save for a missing nail to a claw. Hardly any signs of wear to the gilding. I am uncertain if there was a removable sconce.
