Good Regency Papier Mache Bracket

Good Regency Papier Mache Bracket
A truly lovely English Regency Papier Mache and Lacquer Wall Bracket, dating to c.1820, decorated in gilt with Gryphons (Griffins or Griffons), on a black ground. The colours are bright and vibrant. Gryphons, regal and emblematic figures, are often used in Heraldry. They are legendary creatures with the body of a lion and the head and wings of an eagle. As the lion was traditionally considered the king of the beasts and the eagle was the king of the birds, the gryphon was thought to be an especially powerful and majestic creature, the king of the creatures. Gryphons are known for guarding treasure and priceless possessions.
