Great Art Nouveau Carved Oak Mirror Cranes
A fabulous continental Art Nouveau oak wall mirror, dating to circa 1910-20. It is beautifully carved with two cranes standing in a lily pond, in turn supporting a central rectangular bevel glass mirror set within a tree bough. The cranes seem very Japanese in inspiration, whilst the carved tree boughs look much more Black Forest. In fairly good condition overall, commensurate with age, there are two areas at the top where holes have been infilled with oak and a re-stuck crane wing that had shrunk on a joint. The original mirror plate has slight ghosting and the back board has been replaced. None of this is noticeable unless you look closely and does not affect its visual appeal. Please study the photographs or contact me for further information. It has been re-strung for hanging. It measures 49cm high by 75cm wide, with the mirror plate 24.5cm high by 18cm.
