Great Arts & Crafts Oak Sofa Goodyers Circa 1900
A wonderful Arts and Crafts oak sofa or couch, dating to circa 1900, with yin-yang pierced decoration to the back and sides and fabulous shaped finials to the corners. Most likely manufactured by Goodyers of Regent Street, London, who were major competitors to Liberty & Co, it really is very striking and still has the original leather covered drop in seat. Offered in good condition, commensurate with age, with good colour it has had some shrinkage on the boards across the base. To remedy this it has been sympathetically strengthened with oak brackets under the base and is extremely solid. The drop in seat is sprung and comfortable and the original leather is in pretty good condition. Some stitching has gone on the joins between the hides but this could either be stitched or patched very easily. Having the original upholstery in such good condition is rare!. It measures 78" long, 26" deep and 36" high to the finials, with the base 14" high plus the drop in sprung seat.
