Great Liberty Thebes Stool
A great Liberty Arts and Crafts Thebes Stool, dating to circa 1890, with beautifully patinated oak seat over three outswept legs. Although unmarked, I have seen identical stools with Liberty labels. The design was taken from a stool excavated in Upper Egypt. There was a mania in London for all things Egyptian in the 1880’s and Liberty produced both this and another stool with square top to great success. The stool seat has a lovely golden patina.
