H Lebus Arts & Crafts Inlaid Oak Bureau Bookcase
A lovely Arts and Crafts inlaid oak bureau bookcase, dating to circa 1910, and manufactured by Harris Lebus in London. Marked HLL, for Harris Lebus Limited, to the lock plate it is a well made and practical piece with its combination of book shelves, glazed display and drop flap bureau with fitted interior. The flap when open makes an ideal laptop stand and it is a slim piece so could easily fit in a hallway. Extra details like the ebony and boxwood inlay to both the the bureau drop flap and the front of the two shelves give it extra quality, as does the pierced arched detail to the foot and the yin-yang to the cornice. The glazed upper display has screw eyes to the insides of the doors so it can have ruched curtains if required. Offered in good condition, commensurate with age, I have refurbished and repolished it, cut keys for both locks and tidied up old repaired breaks at the foot. The brass escutcheon to the bureau is a replacement. It measures 175cm high, 77.5cm wide max at the cornice, 30cm max deep at the foot, with the higher shelf 23.5cm high and the lower 22.5cm. Delivery within 30 miles included, shipping likely £60.00 for England and Wales and £72.00 in lower Scotland.
