Keswick W H Mawson Arts & Crafts Copper Tray
A W H Mawson Keswick Arts & Crafts copper tray, dating to circa 1910. A good solid weight, it is decorated with a central flower surrounded by foliage and pomegranate seed pods on a hammered ground within a plain border. William Henry Mawson set up his business in 1900 in direct competition to the Keswick School, where he had been the star employee in 1898. He employed a number of lads from the school in the winter months. The tray is offered in good condition, commensurate with age, and the decoration is crisp with only minimal marking. Stamped "W H Mawson" and "Keswick" to the front it has a copper wirework hanging bracket which is folded over the rolled edge. This appears to have been on the tray for a long time, possibly since new. It measures 59cm (23 1/4") tall by 32.5cm (12 3/4") wide.
