Naval HMS Ganges Maritime Teak Fire Screen c1935

Naval HMS Ganges Maritime Teak Fire Screen c1935
A teak three section fire screen, dating to circa 1935, made from the timbers of HMS Ganges, the last sailing ship to serve as flagship in the British Navy. HMS Ganges was an 84-gun second-rate ship of the line of the Royal Navy, launched on 10 November 1821 at Bombay Dockyard. She fulfilled many functions over the next Century before finally being broken up in 1930. Some of the timbers were used in the construction of Burgh Island Hotel. The fire screen is in good condition, commensurate with age, and decorated with a well modelled rendition of a galleon, with a label to the reverse with details on the ship. Whilst small pieces such as barrels are commonplace, it is much rarer to find the larger pieces of furniture. The fire screen measures 77cm tall, and 70cm max width when opened, with the central panel 44cm wide. The price includes UK postage, please contact me if further afield.
