Oak Liberty Wyburd Arts & Crafts Shakespeare Chair

Oak Liberty Wyburd Arts & Crafts Shakespeare Chair
A stunning Liberty & Co Arts and Crafts oak open armchair, often called a Shakespeare Chair, dating to circa 1890. On the back it is stamped Liberty & Co and L.W. which may be for Leonard Wyburd, the chief furniture designer. It certainly has elements of his designs with the Moorish bobbin turned panel to the back and the substantial thickness of timber used. It is comfortable, albeit with quite a straight back. The chair is offered in good condition, commensurate with age. The seat has been reupholstered at some time in leather and looks great. It measures 127cm high, 66.5cm wide at the handles and 61cm max deep. The seat height is 47cm and width is 47cm. It really is a statement piece!
