Pair Arts & Crafts Steel Serpent Candlesticks 1910
A wonderful pair of Arts & Crafts wrought steel candlesticks or chamber sticks, dating to circa 1910, each decorated with a serpent. The serpents are spring loaded and pulling them back opens the slot to place a candle in, with the tension then holding it in place. The flower bud above is also particularly well modelled. They are unmarked but have been designed and made with great skill, although I am unsure if they are British or German (Goberg?). Offered in good condition, commensurate with age, they measure 34cm (13 1/2") high and 23cm (9") wide at their maximum.
