Scottish Arts & Crafts Tray Kirkwall Orkney
An interesting Orkney Arts & Crafts brass gallery tray, dating to circa 1910 to 1920, decorated with a grotesque fish. Whilst unmarked, when purchased there was an old note sellotaped to the rear stating 'Rita's brass tray made by Daisy Lait, nee Allan, from Quanterness House, Kirkwall. Her husband was a cabinet maker in Kirkwall. Had a business in Broad Street.'
Orkney chairs, manufactured in workshops on the island, were sold in Liberty & Co, and this tray is also made in the Arts & Crafts tradition.
It is very well executed, is in good condition, commensurate with age, and measures 29cm wide, 21.5cm deep and 3.5cm high.
