S.S. Arandora Star Art Deco Desk Calendar

S.S. Arandora Star Art Deco Desk Calendar
An interesting Art Deco chrome desk perpetual calendar, dating to circa 1935, engraved for the S.S. Arandora Star of the Blue Star Line. This must have come from the ship itself - either purchased from the ship's shop or removed as a souvenir! Built by Cammell Laird of Birkenhead in January 1927 for the London - Rio de Janeiro- Buenos Aires route and named the Arandora, it was converted in 1929 to a full-time cruise liner and renamed the Arandora Star. It had a successful 10 years as a cruise liner before the onset of WWII. Sadly it was torpedoed by a German U-boat off the coastof Ireland on 2nd July 1940, with a loss of 805 lives. It is in good condition overall, commensurate with age, with the chrome particularly bright. The perpetual calendar has damage to one of the sheets but not particularly noticeable in use and this could easily be scanned and copied. It measures 12.5cm tall by 10.2cm wide. An interesting piece of cruise liner memorabilia and quite rare - I haven't found another one. Price includes UK postage.
