Victorian Bronze Anthropomorphic Inkwell
A wonderful mid Victorian Anthropomorphic Bronze inkwell, modelled as a grinning devil or imps head with long hairy feet, a mischievous grin (or is that leer?), tufted open ears for quills and a hinged head opening to reveal a recess for inkwell (now missing). The figure is crisply detailed and of good patination. Unfortunately it has lost its original base and is now set on a later stand, probably dating to the Edwardian period.
I have had several of these in brass, set on inkstands, but never in bronze. The difference in quality is very clear!
