Victorian Gothic Oak Letter Box Tawstock Castle
A wonderful Victorian Gothic oak letter box, carved to the front with the name "Tawstock Letter Box" and with initials WH to one end and W to the other. Of castellated form it must have sat on the hall table for outgoing mail. Obviously originally intended for postage it would equally make a wonderful bottle stand or planter. Dating to circa 1860 it is in good condition, commensurate with age. There are some age related cracks to the corners, a couple of small areas of missing castellation and two replaced corner braces inside but overall these are not really noticeable and it really is a stunning piece. Tawstock Casle in North Devon still exists and can be googled where you will see the corner fortifications have a similar look. It measures 40.5cm wide, 25.5cm high and 29cm deep.
